Husbands

Husbands (not The Husbands) are the Oklahoma City based band, originally a duo between two guitarist-vocalists Danny Davis and WIll Norton, who left in 2023, after which Davis transformed it into a full band. They play a mellower version of indie rock with hazy vocals, a bit of a dream pop shimmer on the guitars, and drum machine esthetics. There is also some lo-fi rawness to their sound that keeps their music grounded. Their songs seem to be refusing any chance to turn upbeat, even when they are given all the necessary ingredients. It is not necessarily a dark sound, to be sure, with the guitars and the synths providing a lush backdrop for their partially jangly guitar work, but it keeps hovering in between. Their vocal harmonies are recorded in an understated manner, but they are tight, adding to the vintage surf vibes the band gives off.
