Hidden Orchestra is a project by multi-instrumentalist Joe Acheson, who blends orchestral music with downtempo electronic music. The twist is, he takes the recordings of individual musicians and puts them together in the studio, assembling a non-existent orchestra in a sense. He brings the musicians together to share the same stage during live performances of course. He also makes use of field recordings that capture the sounds of nature in his production. The result is instrumental music that is relatively dark in tone as it is introspective. Drums and rhythms are often as much a part of his work as texture, mood, and atmospherics. He draws a great deal from classical music as well as ambient jazz, but there are also frequent references to Sufi music in his work.
