Square Peg Round Hole
Outline
Square Peg Round Hole (SPRH) is a trio of musicians that combine percussion and synthesizers with found sounds, and other production elements to form a distinct hybrid of classical music, post-rock, and ambient music. Their basic set up involves drums, vibraphone and various keyboards, which lay out their foundation and the underlying texture. They sometimes bring in additional instruments on some tracks, often a bass and a trumpet or a saxophone, and occasional vocals as well. Their music is primarily instrumental, played in forms that are inspired by classical music traditions, most notably by the work of minimalist composers (see Philip Glass and numerous others) There are plenty of atmospherics in their music, but rhythm is a crucial ingredient. In that sense, the closest comparison to their style and overall feel has to be a band like The Kraken Quartet.
