The Kraken Quartet
Outline
The Kraken Quartet is a four-piece band built around percussion instruments: two of them are drummers who also handle electronics and occasional keyboards, and the other two are vibraphonists who also play other percussive instruments. Their music combines elements of classical and ambient music, math rock, and prog, as well as jazz. Their pieces are instrumental in nature, but they often tend to built narrative arcs in some way, giving off a sense that a story is being told without actual words. Not a lot of bands work in this particular space, and among the ones that do, The Kraken Quartet occupies a special place with their percussive-centric approach, which gives their music a unique feel.
