Genevieve Stokes

Genevieve Stokes is a pianist and singer-songwriter based in Portland, Maine. She writes upbeat songs with pop overtones as well as gentle, introspective ballads that project nervous tension and vulnerability. There is a resonant quality to her songwriting in that she matches the expressiveness of her vocal performance and the shades it brings to her songs with the emotional nuances she has already set up in her melodic flow. Her production is streamlined, but it feels rich, in no small part due to the way her piano weaves in and out of the space she builds around it. Her arrangements come with subtle touches here and there, and her songs tend to get a little hazier and dreamier as she drifts into quieter and more intimate tones.
