Fake Fruit is an Oakland based indie rock band whose music has a rough post-punk edge combined with some garage rock tones. There are parts of their instrumentation that offer glimpses of Sonic Youth, other parts that suggest early Wire. The songs typically come in short bursts, with the vocalist Hannah D'Amato artfully shout-singing her frustrations. They also tend to be seriously catchy, both from the melody and performance points of view. There is some fascinating guitar work between D'Amato and Alex Post that sounds borderline woozy at times. The effects are not as strong or central as the way bands like Palberta or Palm have been using it, but it is certainly a component of their style.
