Palberta is an indie rock trio from New York with sharp edges and an abrasive, dissonant sound that stands quite a bit outside of the common esthetics of normative popular music. They play like they are making things up as they go along and that everything is all going to fall apart any moment, which it never does. Their songs are actually fairly structured, with all the standard features of regular rock songs ... and they are all good songs. Some of them are even seriously catchy. Except the band loves to confuse the audience with all the funhouse mirrors they have built around the music and that guitar that never quite sounds like it is in tune no matter who is playing it. If all this is reminds you of your old Captain Beefheart records, that is because he may be the closest analog to Palberta we have out there.
