Elucid (often stylized as E L U C I D) is the stage name of hip-hop artist Chaz Hall, who is also known as one half of Armand Hammer, which is his collaboration with billy woods. Whereas woods tends to punch hard with plenty of verbal bravado, Elucid comes across more as an introverted artist locked into the soundscapes he creates with his loops and samples. Noise is a key ingredient of his sound, whether it is interlaced with his woozy beats, or simply swells up to take over his songs. The resulting mixture is actually much closer to a psychedelic style as opposed to having aggressive tones or having an industrial bend. His music has a strongly experimental edge, and often feels like it is about to fall apart even when he is tacking closer to a more conventional hip-hop flow, as was the case with his 2022 album, I Told Bessie.
