Cassandra Jenkins is a singer, songwriter, and guitar player from Brooklyn whose works has been diverging from her indie folk roots. Her earlier work was comfortably located somewhere between mellow folk and soft, unassuming pop built around gentle beats and straightforward melodies strummed on her guitar and sung in a whispery voice. Then she went on a bit of a break and came back in 2021 as a more mature songwriter with more depth and subtlety in her songs. Her delivery did not change a whole lot, she had the same misty, dreamy quality, but her musical choices were bolder: not trying too hard with her melodies, letting the songs flow their natural course, and having the mood and the instrumentation do the work, which lead to some impressive gems.
