Brekky Boys is a Sydney based piano-centric jazz trio who plays a style that is structured and melodic enough to speak to fans that are more in to pop music, but with enough improvisational flair and rhythmic shifts to also grab the attention of jazz fans. It is not necessarily a unique sound, as this form of jazz has been around for decades (see early and mid The Bad Plus, among others), but theirs is a particularly crafty execution of it. Taylor Davis, who leads the band on the piano, has a fluid style where he noodles around with new age adjacent circular melodies often, but both he and his bandmates have a percussive top gear that conveys a sense of urgency, expertly pushed up by drummer Alex Hirlian (and Liam Hogan before him), who especially shines in those moments.
