DoomCannon is the moniker used by pianist composer Dominic Canning, one time member of the duo Project Karnak, and part of the collective Steam Down, He is one of the next generation of musicians emerging from London's growing jazz scene. His music displays a wide range of influences, from John Coltrane's contemplative jazz to smooth jazz to J DIlla's hip-hop innovations, all finding their way into his music. But the main piece that he returns to regularly appears to be fusion jazz, particularly the work of some of the '70s greats such as Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Stylistically, he seems to be drawing a great deal from Herbie Hancock, especially when he is on his Rhodes.
