The Black Tones is the twins Eva and Cedric Walker, with Eva on guitar and vocals, and Cedric on drums. They are a band with one foot in Seattle's alt rock sound, which is where they grew up, and the other in Louisiana's southern traditions which is where their family originally came from. Their music serves as a nice crossover point between indie rock on the one hand and a mix of blues, folk, and gospel on the other. It is a balance that gives the duo their distinctive character, something reflected in the title of their first album, Cobain & Cornbread (2019). Eva is a terrific singer with a big, confidence voice that is a great match stylistically. Her guitar work is also remarkable especially when she delivers her grimy blues lines, built on her brother, Cedric's fat grooves.
