The Black Tones

The Black Tones are the twins Eva and Cedric Walker, with Eva on guitar and vocals, and Cedric on drums. They are a band with one foot in Seattle's alt-rock sound, which is where they grew up, and the other in Louisiana's southern traditions, which is where their family originally came from. Their music serves as a nice crossover point between indie rock on the one hand and a mix of blues, folk, and gospel on the other. It is a balance that gives the duo their distinctive character, something reflected in the title of their first album, Cobain & Cornbread (2019). Eva is a terrific singer with a big, confidence voice that is a great match stylistically. Her guitar work is also remarkable, especially when she delivers her grimy blues lines, built on her brother, Cedric's fat grooves.
