Black Ox Orkestar
Outline
Black Ox Orkestar is a band with a particular focus on traditional Jewish diaspora music that keeps them anchored in the klezmer sound, with forays into other adjacent styles including Romani, Balkan, and Middle Eastern music. They come out of Montreal's highly fertile multi-cultural environment, composed of musicians who are quite active in the city's diverse scene, having played with a number of other groups over the years. Their songs can be elegiac or celebratory, performed typically on acoustic instruments. They mix traditional pieces with original compositions, all sung primarily in Yiddish. The band reunited in 2022 for their album Everything Returns after a very long break.
