Jessica Moss
Outline
Violinist and composer Jessica Moss is an artist who regularly appears on the recordings of Montreal based post-rock ensembles Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. Her solo work, on the other hand, tends to be planted firmly in the avant-garde world, at and around the intersection between post-classical and stripped down electronic music, though she also brings in elements of post-rock, especially with respect to her use of drones. She is more explorative and impressionistic in her sound than introspective and ethereal, at least for the most part. Her pieces are typically built around her violin, with various electronic filter effects and multitracking, and she certainly does not shy away from taking her time to develop the musical ideas at their core.
Colin Stetson, Juliana Barwick, Faten Kanaan, also Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Godspeed You! Black Emperor for context
She is a member of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra
Moss also played with Vic Chestnutt, Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire.
