Gary Clark Jr

Gary Clark Jr is an Austin-based singer, songwriter, and guitar player whose music is an amalgamation of American musical traditions like rock, soul, funk, and hip-hop (arguably in that order) all poured in to a blues-shaped mold and released to the whole world. He is widely recognized as one of the top level guitarists working in the blues-rock genre who are currently active. His music comes with a lot of raw power, muscle, and fuzzy sound, though he has recently been taking a more balance approach between genres, being less chops-centric, and focusing more on the songs. Some of his outstanding recordings are the intimate pieces that sound like he's sitting on the steps of his porch, playing old-fashioned blues by himself, probably with no audience. For the most part though, his songs have a strong rock edge, and some political bend to his lyrics, often putting whatever has been on his mind out there.
