The Black Angels
Outline
The Black Angels are a band from Austin that taps into the darker side of psychedelia both in theme and in tone. Their style often takes orbit around garage, which helps anchor their sound in a more structured and less freewheeling territory. Even when they start getting trippy, they never quite lose that connection. They rock more than they groove, as they tack closer to garage traditions and bring the psychedelic component as an accent on their sound. The music is generally propulsive, a little on the dark side, and fairly sober. Their instrumentation is sharp and to the point. Having been around for a while as a band, they have built a catalog that is well-worth exploring that tells the story of a band that is continually evolving.
