The Bright Light Social Hour

The Bright Light Social Hour is an indie rock band that combines southern rock and psychedelic rock with a funk touch. The band went through some stylistic changes along the way: whereas the first album is more southern rock with occasional elements of funk inserted (and some disco grooves) with keyboards and bass at the forefront, their second album sees guitars taking over the groove with some finger picking and reverb effects and psychedelia turned up.  These pieces start getting integrated in the following albums, where the increased production value allows for the band's pop sensibilities to come out, with an overall tone that brings to mind shades of another Austin band, Spoon. Their 2022 album, Jude Vol II, sees their usual haziness stretch a bit in the direction of dream pop in some instances, which adds another interesting dimension to their music.
