Big Thief

Big Thief is an indie folk/indie rock band built around the songs of singer/guitarist Adrianne Lenker and her often wistful and subtle songs. The other members of the band create a protective space Lenker's her low-key, whispery, fragile voice and the raw emotions and memories she works into her songs. Her poetry and storytelling in the lyrics is an essential component of the band's work. When her usually quiet intensity kicks up a notch or two, the band responds in kind to add that extra layer of tension, which they perform with a craftsman's attention to details. The songs are beautiful and resonant, with plenty of melodic hooks, but neither happy nor carefree, and they almost always benefit from repeat listens.
