Bass Drum of Death is the brain child of singer-guitarist John Barrett, who started as a one man band with his guitar and kick drum, hence the name of the band. Barrett is an old school rocker leading an old school punk rock band that rocks hard like a classic garage band in all their gloriously lo-fi, scrappy ways. They play with palpable passion, fully operating on a high gear. They are naturally loud, though not exactly noisy. Their music has the '00s garage sound along the lines of bands like The Strokes and The Hives, who had re-popularized the style at the time. Barrett drives the songs with his guitar, supported by Eric Parisi's power drumming that helps push the volume and the tempo up. Their later recordings preserve the rough spirit of their music, but with production value upgraded to a much clearer sound.
