Art d'Ecco is a singer-songwriter who has adopted a mixture of the classic '70s glam sound and the '80s new romantic style as his musical base. The glam sound (as well as the look) was more prominent when he first started where his music showed elements of a young David Bowie and early years of Roxy Music. He began to tap into some of the '80s energy in his 2022 album After the Head Rush, with a particularly keen eye directed at some of the funkier corners of that era. He captures the stylistic quirks of artists ranging from from Echo and the Bunnymen style grooves to Cars singer Ric Ocasek's distinct vocal cadence and Thomas Dolby's big, orchestral sound. All of these leave a lot to unpack and untangle, but given d'Ecco's knack for pop hooks and the way his production team puts the bow on his gems, sorting through his references becomes a bit secondary
