Ali

Ali is a trio based in Jakarta, who bring some middle eastern and surf rock highlights to their Indonesian funk fusion style. Like many other world fusion bands active today, a vintage '70s sound is firmly incorporated into their music. The obvious reference point for western ears would have to be Khruangbin, and the way they have been tapping into a similar collection of influences for a while now. Bassist Arswandaru Cahyo comes across as the anchor of the group, laying out an effective funk foundation with drummer John Paul Patton. Guitarist Absar Lebeh is in the driver's seat, navigating all the stylistic choices laid out for him. Ali is actually a side project for the musicians, who all come from other established bands in the Indonesian scene.
