The 1865

The 1865 is a band formed by director/musician Sasha Jenkins along with other musicians who have been active in the New York punk scene. They mix garage rock sound with hard rock riffs and a punk style attack. Vocalist Honeychild Coleman sings with a sweet voice that softens the band's otherwise rough, grungy, and scratchy delivery. The songs have the usual punk aggressiveness in tone, but they are also hummably melodic and memorable. The band is highly political in their lyrics and are completely straightforward about where they stand.
