Vijay Iyer

Vijay Iyer is a pianist, a composer, and a bandleader, who has been producing an exceptional body of work in jazz since 1994. He has been a prolific artist, a renowned improviser, and frequent collaborator who has played with a wide range of musicians. He has a remarkable range, handling contemplative, improvisational pieces, navigating the complex rhythms and harmonies of progressive jazz, and bringing to life the subtleties of the more familiar forms of post-bop. Some of his music is more abstract and he can get aggressively experimental. He has also created work that draws from various South Asian traditions. He has composed film music and ballet, as well classical music pieces that are performed by large orchestras.
