Vanille is the moniker used by Montreal based singer-songwriter Rachel Leblanc (there is also a French singer, Vanille LeClerk, who goes by her first name) whose songs generally float between a dreamy, wobbly, jangly type of pop and acoustic folk ballads with strongly romantic themes. The latter became a more prominent part of her music in her 2023 album La clairière, where she revisited the '60s folk sound, which in turn took her further back into the medieval folk sound. Her music has an ethereal quality that comes partly from her affinity towards the classic folk sound and partly from the way she uses her soft and sweet voice to conjure a dreamy effect whether she is singing folk or pop.
