Trupa Trupa

Trupa Trupa is a band from Gdansk, Poland that work in an area between no wave and post-rock. Their music has the ability to be both very familiar and utterly idiosyncratic at the same time. In some ways, they come across as a hybrid between Sonic Youth in their dirgey mode and the patient build-ups and layered passages of Tortoise, plus some Radiohead calmness and Swans type dread flavor thrown in for extra excitement. A lot of their songs are slow burners. They seem to like dark atmospherics and driving, repetitive, often mid-tempo patterns on drums and bass. The guitars don't take the lead that much. If anything, it is Wojciech Juchniewicz's bass that is at the front more often. The songs are in English, and the vocalist Grzegorz Kwiatkowski has a low-key, intimate voice and singing style.
