Sunflower Bean

Sunflower Bean is a Brooklyn based three-piece indie band that has gone through some changes since they started as an indie rock ensemble driven by guitarist Nick Kivien's jangly, arpeggiated guitar work. Then came the dance-friendly pop period where the band was seriously flirting with disco at times as bassist Julia Cummings started to play a heavier role on the vocals. In their current state, the band has reclaimed some of their rock past, even turning up the dial on how forceful they push the sound at times, but they also continue to polish their pop sheen quite a bit. Cummings has come to her own as a singer, while she continues to tag team with Kvien. The trio has also grown tighter as an ensemble and continue to write clear hooks.
