The Soft Moon was the one-man band led by Luis Vasquez, a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter originally from Oakland, California. He created a dark and ominous feel with his music that packs darkwave and industrial into a tight ball of angst. His songs have a strong melodic core underneath their gloomy and/or harsh surface. Vasquez mixed in krautrock and various post-punk flavors in his work as well, where the latter was particularly prominent in his earlier, self-released recordings. His music can get fairly intense, with a mixture of pain and anger lying close to the surface in a way that is not unlike Trent Reznor's initial set of work as Nine Inch Nails. His solo release, 2021's A Body of Errors was an instrumental work that explored pretty much the same sonic palette. Unfortunately, Vasquez passed away in 2024.
