Sneaks is the stage name used by lo-fi spoken word hip-hop artist, singer, songwriter Eva Moolchan. She works with riffs on her bass, electronic drum beats, and some synth accompaniment to produce snippets of music, often no longer than two minutes in length. She sings, raps, and uses spoken words to express random thoughts in repeated phrases. Her songs are brief and rarely follow the A/B/bridge type structure. Her earlier work relied on her signature bass lines more and had much simpler textures. Her riffs and loops tend to have a bit of no wave type indie rock in them, a bit of early post-punk, as well as hip hop grooves and some funk. The thread that runs through her music is not necessarily her stylistic choices or how she constructs her beats, but her raw, under-polished, and inventive musical phrases.
