Sego is a Los Angeles based indie band that tends to combine '90s style slacker esthetics with funky alt pop that at times echoes the laid back and lazy grooves of Beck, with a touch of Wilco in there somewhere. Vocalist Spencer Petersen, who co-founded the band with drummer Thomas Carroll, seems to enjoy slipping into the Beck cadence, though there is also some Eels in his delivery. The band was firmly grounded in the indie rock sound on their 2018 album Sego Sucks, but before that, they were playing around with LCD Soundystem style synth driven dance beats, laying their chiming guitars on top, getting a bit dissonant at times but in a fun way. Their songs often come with social observations and a self-aware, ironic bite.
