Joywave is a band that frequently injects musical gestures of indie rock into their lively, buoyant pop that makes extensive use of synths. They lean quite a bit and rather unambiguously into dance oriented grooves without crossing over into synth pop or electronic dance territory. The band is led by guitarist-singer Daniel Armbruster, who delivers melodically satisfying tunes bathed in wit and driven by his obvious concern for the state of the world. The band is energetic and likes to turn it up a couple of notches to add more volume to their big choruses. Their songs feel light and bouncy, the grooves are groovy, and the arrangements are clear, crisp and bright with a dancey, funky touch that permeates their catalog.
