Santigold

Santigold (aka Santi White) is a multi-genre artist whose music is anchored primarily in dance-oriented pop, though she incorporates a broad range of other genres including synth pop, indie rock, reggae, and so on. Her approach is fairly eclectic with respect to the elements she brings in: She can go on some post-punk drone in one song and jump right into bubble gum pop in the next. Despite how strong the pop component of her music is, there is still something approachable and natural in the way she makes it all work. Her songs do not seem to be constructed specifically for mega-festival big stage moments even when she has decided to go big on her sound. Her self-titled 2008 debut album references LCD Soundsystem quite a bit, while her more recent work opens more to African, Caribbean, and Latin beats.
