Samara Joy

Samara Joy is a jazz vocalist who has thus far been focusing on a traditional swinging sound. Her style is mostly modelled after some of the earlier giants like Sarah Vaughn. Her self-titled 2021 debut album explores some of the lesser known entries from the great American songbook alongside some of the standards. She is a natural singer with a velvety voice who pulls off tricky phrasings with clarity and without any trace of showiness. She clearly approaches her material with a mixture of reverence and a playful twinkle in the eye that is almost audible. There is a classy nightclub feel to her performance and the kind of vibrancy that allows the audience to imagine what it must have felt like to be there when the public first got to know those songs.
