Jazzmeia Horn

Jazzmeia Horn is a Jazz vocalist and composer whose work has thus far focused on the traditional aspects of jazz, even though she has also been updating classic conventions quite a bit. Her music pulls from swing, bebop, and blues, as well as taking occasional forays into the world of spoken word jazz. In 2021's dear love, she fronted a 15-piece band rather than the kind of small to mid-size bands she had been working with by previously. She sings a good mixture of standards and selections from a more modern songbook, such as Erykah Badu's "Green Eyes". About half her repertoire is her original compositions that fit in remarkably well with those standards, differentiated mostly by her decidedly modern lyrics. It has to be noted that she is a top-notch vocalist with a wonderfully expressive voice and a master scat singer and improviser.
