The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band is a country blues trio led by Reverend Peyton, who is up front and center in their music, delivering his powerful finger-picked, Mississippi delta blues inspired upbeat, stumpelicious, heartfelt goodness. It is a big band not by size, but by volume and sound, thanks mostly to Peyton's big growl and his nifty work on his vintage guitars. His wife, Breezy Peyton, is on the washboard, adding metallic scratches, while Max Senteney is on a fairly stripped down drum set that sometimes features a plastic bucket for a tom. The music that comes out of this set up is fairly raw and mesmerizing at the same time. In addition to that particular mixture of country and blues, the band also plays quite a bit of honky-tonk and gospel, in their own unique way, of course. This band could be seen as a bold gateway to a bluesy corner of the American musical tradition.
