Punch Brothers

Punch Brothers are a string quintet whose music is nominally anchored in the bluegrass tradition, though in reality they are a far more ambitious band whose reach expands well into the world of orchestral classical music, with an occasional nod at jazz style improvisations, as well as periodic excursions into indie rock. What remains constant across this broad range and variation is the sophisticated and complex nature of their compositions, solid melodies, and the remarkable levels of musicianship displayed by each member on their instruments. It is not uncommon to see their songs extend beyond the 6-minute mark especially when they bring in classical elements in a fully engaging way, something they went all in on The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers (2026). Their 2022 album Hell on Church Street contains mostly covers.
