Pool Kids

Pool Kids are a band that plays in the emo style with a slight math accent, though perhaps not as explicitly since their 2018 debut album Music to Practice Safe Sex To. They make use of the standard features of the genre, including some blustering guitar work, rousing choruses, and the type of up and down dynamic that gives singer-guitarist Christine Goodwyne a chance to shine with her emotive and nuanced vocals. That said, next to Caden Clinton's drumming, what truly stands out with this band is the strength of their songwriting. In addition to their melodically driven strong hooks and intricate guitar lines, their songs also feel inspired in ways that go beyond the basic know-how of strong construction and give each one the ability to stand on their own.
