Paramore is an indie band that first broke out in the late '00s as a pop punk act with strong emo tendencies and a high powered delivery that was clearly driven by the powerful voice of their vocalist, Hayley Williams. They then took a softer approach in the '10s, moving more in the pop rock and indie pop direction, incorporating synth sounds into their music and occasionally accessing new wave motifs. The band's earlier bombast receded in favor of more nuanced and melodic songs, though anthemic highs and climactic bursts have never been too far off their menu at any point in their career. They recently returned to spotlight in 2023 with This is Why after a five year hiatus, appearing to have found a middle ground between the attack-oriented approach of their initial albums and the more melodic and pop-inclined sound of their later work.
