Nuby Nuha Ra is the bass player for Arrows of Love, whose solo work has strong experimental ideas and bold arrangements where her slow burning dirges with screaming synths and a saxophone playing middle eastern melodies are followed by songs with a swinging bass groove, speak-singing mixed with jazz-adjacent vocals, or a detour into some dark cabaret territory. Her work embraces unconventional and idiosyncratic melodies and a fuzzy, transgressive sound paired with lyrics that are pretty much a public dissection of raw emotions. As an artist who is in the early phases of her career, the level of maturity and the sense of adventure she delivers is comparable to Björk, early Nick Cave, and even Scott Walker to some extent. It is challenging music that may not be for every palate, but once the listener is acclimated, it is no less than a revelation.
