Nonbinary Girlfriend

Nonbinary Girlfriend is singer/songwriter Anaïs Binkowski's project following the dissolution of Cry Babe during the pandemic period. Their sound is not locked into a particular style of indie and keeps its fluidity as it shifts between introverted, contemplative pieces and upbeat songs that appear to be inspired by the work of The Smiths. Binkowski likes to mix '60s retro pop and '90s fuzzy alt-rock motifs, while on the vocal side, they add a siren-like enchanting finish on their own take of sometimes overtly Morriseyesque crooning. Their songs are melodically distinct in ways that help maintain a good distance from the stylistic template they have borrow from.
