Nap Eyes
Outline
Nap Eyes are an indie band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, led by guitarist, singer, songwriter Nigel Chapman. They have an easy-going style, typically at the mid-tempo range, driven by jangly guitars that usually entertain melodic riffs, but can burst into a tear. Chapman's vocal delivery combines the mixture of slipperiness and the ironic perk of Stephen Malkmus with the strained nasality of J Mascis, which along with the guitarist Brad Loughead's occasional shredding, gives the band a lighter version of Dinosaur Jr. vibe. Their first three albums were lo-fi which the band moved decidedly away from on their fourth, Snapshots of a Beginner, where they favored a more fully realized production with tighter arrangements and more articulation in the instrumentation, especially on the guitar.
Stephen Malkmus, especially his work with The Jicks, Ducks Ltd, Broken Social Scene, Bonny Doon
Seamus Dalton and Josh Salter were in Monomyth.
Brad Loughead was in Each Other.
