Nap Eyes is an indie band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, led by guitarist, singer, songwriter Nigel Chapman. They have an easy-going style, typically at the mid tempo range, driven by jangly guitars that usually entertain melodic riffs, but can burst into a tear. Chapman's vocal delivery combines the mixture of slipperiness and the ironic perk of Stephen Malkmus with the strained nasality of J Mascis, which along with the guitarist Brad Loughead's occasional shredding, gives the band a lighter version of Dinosaur Jr. vibe. Their first three albums were lo-fi which the band moved decidedly away from on their fourth, Snapshots of a Beginner, where they favored a more fully realized production with tighter arrangements and more articulation in the instrumentation, especially on the guitar.
