Namesake is a Brooklyn based four-piece band whose sound is reminiscent of the transitional period in the late '70s where post-punk was just beginning to diverge from punk with some contemporary indie elements also added in. They have the energy, mannerism, roughness, and the snarl of punk, but their use of hooks and the sense of the flow mostly echo post-punk (think a harsher version of the early Wire, or Gang of Four without the jangly guitar and funky bass). Their music is often high tempo and has strong garage rock tendencies in their attack and the way they hurry without rushing. They play tight and had a good melodic streak, especially in their post-name change incarnation.
