Mr. Softheart

Mr. Softheart is a post-punk band that leans towards a cooler and edgier version of new wave with a style of instrumentation and sonic profile that clearly draws inspiration from the classic '80 sound. They play without a dedicated rhythm section, and rely on synths and a drum machine to do the heavy lifting on the grooves while the members distribute guitar and keyboard duties among themselves. Vocalists/synth players John Fisher and Halen Becker provide a basic contrast in their delivery, going dark and dreamy, respectively. Back when they were a trio, before Backer joined the group in 2024, they were stylistically more in the goth type lane with a harsher edge and perhaps a touch of Sisters of Mercy accent. They still hold on to their darker shades for sure, though they are a bit lighter on the angst these days.
