Mountain Grass Unit

Mountain Grass Unit is a bluegrass string quartet originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Their music has a lot of the features shared by other contemporary bluegrass acts in the way they meld elements of rock and country music into their sound. They also play like a jam band on stage, another common characteristic of such acts. Each member is quite deft on their instruments, while Drury Anderson, the mandolin player, adds a nice twang and a sense of buoyancy to their songs with his somewhat smoky but sweet voice. Their songs are upbeat, as one would expect and project a sense of fun and youthfulness, backed by the skills of an enthusiastic and highly capable band.
