MC Yallah

MC Yallah (full name Yallah Gaudencia Mbidde) is a rapper and producer based in Kampala, Uganda, who has been breaking national and linguistic boundaries in the hip-hop world. She was born in Kenya and grew up in Uganda, and raps fluently and fluidly in regional languages Luganda, Luo, and Kiswahili, with a sprinkling of English every now and then. She reportedly switches between these languages based on the beat she uses to construct any given song. Even if one does not speak the local languages in question, Yallah's work provides a glimpse into how language can be used as a percussive instrument. She is an artist continually in search of new and different beats and experimental textures. Her overall tone is generally dark, and she comes across as agitated in her delivery.
