Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley (the band, that is) taps into the anxiety-ridden, early post-punk of the late '70s with all its ragtag excitement, but plays it with a lot of purpose and focus. Their music is rough, and feels instinctive and spontaneous in a way that reflects its garage mindset with its fairly loose and free flowing approach to songwriting that favors directness and clarity as opposed to bouncing off the walls in a frenzy of catharsis. They like to keep a strong melodic line in their songs, and perhaps surprisingly, tend to keep a relatively bright sound without getting all sunshiny. They may not have a deep catalog at this point, but what they have built thus far suggests a band with an appetite for exploration.
