Kristeen Young is a singer-songwriter and an art rock artist from New York who has a serious avant-garde streak. Her music is volatile, bursting with creative ideas, but apparently has little time for conventional, pleasant songs for the masses. It is intense around beats, takes sharp turns, builds tension, and lets melodies go in unexpected directions. There are quite a few threads one can pull here: Her propensity for shifts is a little like early Buke and Gase, her vocal delivery bears an eerie resemblance to Kate Bush when she is on a roll, and her attack on the piano brings to mind Amanda Palmer during her Dresden Dolls years. On the whole, she is an artist completely onto herself, an original that may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for fans who seek unique styles and like to be surprised, she's a gem.
