Karate Boogaloo

Karete Boogaloo is a band that fully embraces the classic funky soul grooves of the '70s and presents them through the kaleidoscope of the contemporary instrumental sound that incorporates the type of slinky sound in the mold of bands like LA LOM or Orions Belte, except with focus on retro soul. They started out with a pair of mixtapes comprising covers where they gave their own spin to some classic songs before they started recording their own. Their music is quite mellow in temperament, and comes in a highly measured but melodic style that keeps its dynamics even-keeled and instrumentation choices aligned with vintage sonic textures.  Given that they do not employ vocals in their work, that instrumentation tends to be fairly up front and center in their music.
