Kapil Seshasayee is a multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter from Glasgow who combines distinct traditions: He generally works off of a base that has echoes of early progressive rock (it is not much of stretch to be hear some Jethro Tull in there) but it is put through a kaleidoscope that blends contemporary alt and math rock. Woven into that fabric is microtonality and traditional (South) Indian rhythms. Seshasayee uses these as well-placed motifs in his music rather than an overarching theme. Especially his guitar work taps into these elements of Indian music through its special tuning and harmonics. His recent work brings more synth and electronic textures into his focus. He has a smooth singing voice and often lyrics with a protest nature that focuses on nationalism, the caste system in India, and other social issues.
