Jim Ghedi
Outline
Jim Ghedi is a folk artist, singer, and songwriter from Sheffield, England, who infuses the traditional sound of British folk with contemporary musical elements, not the least of which is his use of drone and atmospherics. There is also a strong presence of Irish folk in his work, and an occasional nod at classical chamber orchestration. He is a remarkable guitarist and an intense performer as a vocalist. His songs are elegiac and dramatic, often referencing a sense of loss in some way. Increasingly, they also have a sharper electric edge, and a more percussive feel overall. This is in contrast with his earlier work, which was more comfortable in the conventional folk instrumentation.
