The Heliocentrics is a London based fusion band that plays like a psychedelic jam band that has taken a left turn somewhere along the way and ended up in a pocket dimension between jazz and trip-hop. When taken individually, a lot of their songs have strong Krautrock influences, with especially the way the drums and bass are locked into Can-like grooves. There is also a strand of modern, dissonant music that weaves in and out. They then inject a sense of fusion jazz into this mix and the result is a distinct sound that explores a lot of crevices between genres. The band often projects a rolling sensation when they play. The singer Barbora Patkova gives the band a dreamy layer and additional depth to work with. Their 2020 album Telemetric Sounds has a level of abrasiveness in their sound that had not been there in the band's prior discography, which, though surprising at first, does not undermine their overall blueprint.
